A Guide to Vancouver

For Our Wedding Guests

A note from us

Hey, there.

We are so excited for you to come to our wedding. For many of our guests, this will be their first trip here, some may be travelling a long way and hoping to turn it into a vacation, and some are local but do not always get the chance to play tourist in their own backyard.

We curated this guide with a mix of Vancouver staples and many of our personal favourite places, with the hope that it helps you make the most of your time in Vancouver, whatever that looks like for you. You can browse beaches, shopping, restaurants, and more, then tap the hearts beside anything you like to build your own personalized list to come back to later. The heart button in the bottom corner opens your saved list, where you can print it, bookmark it, or copy the link to share or save your plans.

We also included practical information to help make getting around Vancouver easier, including tips on local transit, the SkyTrain, EVO, and a few other things that are a little unique to the city. There is also a stay page to help you find the right neighbourhood and hotel for your trip.

Before You Book Flights

A few things we’ve learned from flying in and out of Vancouver way too many times. We’ve also spent enough time watching Vancouver flight prices to know what’s normal, what’s a deal, and what’s probably not worth waiting for. Here are a few quick tips to help.

Start Watching Prices Early
(2–3 Months Out)

Start checking flights a couple of months before your trip so you get a feel for what prices normally look like. The goal is not necessarily to book immediately, but to recognize a genuinely good deal when it appears.

Local Tips

A few things to know

Car Break-Ins

Car break-ins are unfortunately common in Vancouver. Never leave bags, backpacks, electronics, or even loose items visible in your car. Thieves often target parked cars in tourist areas and trailheads.

Downtown Eastside

Vancouver has an area called the Downtown Eastside (around East Hastings and Main Street) where you may see open drug use and homelessness. It can be shocking if you're not expecting it, but most people keep to themselves. It's generally fine to pass through during the day, but visitors usually avoid the area at night.

Hiking & Nature Safety

Vancouver's mountains and forests are beautiful but can be serious wilderness. Bring water, proper shoes, and check the weather before hiking. Trails can become dangerous quickly in rain or snow.

Rain Preparedness

Vancouver weather changes quickly. Having a light jacket or umbrella is a good idea, especially near the ocean or on hikes.
